Assisted living was new for me to research for my wife to enter into hospice AND assisted living at the same time. I visited a larger facility and realized I wanted a more private setting. I visited 3 facilities and there was absolutely only one choice for me, Hillside! It is a privately owned facility in a quiet neighborhood.

The staff make it what it is. A home, a family, home-cooked (really good) meals. The kindness and care there was like nothing I have ever seen. My wife required a lot of specialized attention with her condition and I would go home at night and just be amazed at how comfortable she was, knowing she was being taken care of fully.

Durenda, Heather and Rose run the home very well. They will not tolerate staff that do not bring the best of care. I could visit anytime, eat with them, sit at the table, etc. They became my family too!

While my wife was not there very long, every day and hour counted. I can say that Hillside made her feel her very best, and now that she is home in heaven, I am sure she is looking out for Hillside staff every day as well!

My mother spent almost two years at Hillside and it was God's grace to her and our family. She was well taken care of, especially the last few months of her life. Most importantly for us, Mom was happy and content, and really loved the staff. We did not have the worries that we had with several corporate owned assisted living facilities that Mom had lived in. Because this facility is small, owned by an individual, and happens to be well-run and managed, I would highly recommend them.

Mom was at Hillside for almost 2 years. The atmosphere was completely different ( in a good way) than the other larger places she had been in over the years. It was like she was at home again where she could sit at the kitchen table, pretty much have whatever she wanted, and visit with the caretakers while they were preparing the meals. She improved physically, emotionally and spiritually in this peaceful setting.
The staff was incredible, especially toward the end. They loved on her, doted on her, prayed with her and even ate late night snacks with her, sometimes with a movie! They developed a very close relationship with her and our family. We learned a lot from them on how to love the elderly and also developed a bond with the families of the other residents. Even when mom went through spells of not being able to communicate they were able to get her to joke around with them, bringing out her old self that we missed. We have seen a lot of caregivers through the years but this crew is the best!
The director, Durenda, is amazing! Seriously, she gives her everything to the residents and the staff. She is a national treasure! If the caregivers do not take their job seriously she will let them go. (Which is why you might see a disgruntled employee review).
We honestly could not of asked for a better place for mom. God blessed us with peace of mind knowing mom was safe and well cared for at Hillside until He called her home.

Almost 9 years in corporate assisted living and skilled nursing care facilities can leave one skeptical whether good basic care exists. Hillside was a refreshing change! The staff is high quality, loving and attentive to the unique needs of each resident. They are supported by management that truly cares about what is best for each resident, leads by example and is driven to excellence in customer service. It’s a relief knowing that our loved one is receiving the care she deserves! Thank you Hillside!
