Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila — A Near Southside Fort Worth Labor of Love Where Chef Sandy Rankin Honors the Legendary Legacy of the Late Chef Paul Willis Through Inventive Latin Tacos, Loaded Nachos, and Nearly 50 Tequilas on West Magnolia Avenue

There is a story behind every great Fort Worth restaurant, and the one behind Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila at 909 W. Magnolia Ave. is one of the most meaningful in the city. Chef Sandy Rankin spent 17 years working alongside the late Chef Paul Willis — the visionary Fort Worth restaurateur who created the original Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, Pedro’s Trailer Park, Yucatan Taco Stand, and Cabo before his death in 2023 — and when Willis passed, he gave Rankin his recipe books and asked her to carry on his culinary legacy. In 2024, she did exactly that, opening Tres Amigos — named for herself, her husband Cory, and son Collin — inside the very West Magnolia Avenue space that Willis himself had opened as Yucatan Taco Stand back in 2008. The atmosphere is bright and festive, the patio remains one of the most beloved gathering spots on Magnolia Street, and regulars from the Yucatan days note with relief that the kitchen and experience have been significantly elevated while preserving the convivial Latin spirit that made the address special in the first place.

The menu is a creative blend of Chef Paul’s resurrected recipes and Sandy’s own innovations, all made from scratch daily and priced accessibly for the neighborhood. Chef Paul’s original Baja fish taco — tempura-battered, topped with chipotle aioli and cabbage slaw — anchors the taco section alongside the Pescado Loco, the Cali Taco, mango habanero shrimp, tequila lime chicken, and green chile carnitas. Loaded Latin nacho platters piled high with protein, house queso, chihuahua cheese, latin pico, and roasted garlic aioli are a table-sized event best shared between two. El Jefe burritos and burrito bowls with Latin rice and pureed black beans, quesadillas, Latin sandwiches served with fried plantains, and a remarkable ground sirloin and chorizo meatloaf plate topped with mushroom demi glaze and chipotle mashed potatoes — a direct nod to Pedro’s Trailer Park — round out a menu that stretches considerably beyond typical Tex-Mex. A tribute to Willis’s partnership at the long-gone M&M Steakhouse, “Kidwill’s Cowtown” ribeye dinner features a 14-ounce flame-grilled ribeye with signature garlic butter. The tequila and cocktail program features nearly 50 tequila selections, daily drink specials, and hand-crafted margaritas that Fort Worth Weekly described as hitting the perfect tart-sweet balance.

Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila is located at 909 W. Magnolia Ave., Suite 10, Fort Worth, TX 76104, and is open Sunday through Wednesday from 10:30am to 10pm and Thursday through Saturday from 10:30am to 11pm. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3 to 7pm, with daily drink specials including $5 ranch waters on Thursdays, $5 palomas on Fridays, and $3 mimosas and $5 bloody marys on weekends. Dine-in, takeout, delivery via DoorDash, and catering are all available. Whether you knew and loved Chef Paul Willis’s work or you’re discovering these beloved recipes for the first time, Tres Amigos is a Near Southside destination with real heart. My co-worker and I stopped in today for Taco Tuesday and beers for lunch. Fortunately, I wasn't in a hurry to order food, so we went to the bar to chill. My co-worker wasn't so patient. He ordered immediately. While at the bar, it didn't look like I was going to get any service any time soon, so I asked the young man (one of two workers in sight) if I could get a beer. I assume that he was too young to serve alcohol, because he had to ask his co-worker to help with the ordered. Once I got my beer, I said that I would like to start a tab. The kind lady said that I could not with her, because she wasn't the bartender. The bartender was nowhere in sight and was informed that she was on the phone. Wonderful! 😁
I noticed an order on the counter sitting for quite some time, so I told my buddy, "I bet that's your order." As sure as the world turns, it was. 😆 After I asked the lady if he could cancel his order, she apologized and brought the food. We paid and left. I never did see who the bartender was 🤣
Upsetting? Absolutely! But I'm glad it played out the way that it did. We went down the road to Taqueria San Andres for Taco Tuesday and were not disappointed in the least. Please read my Google Maps review on it. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Use to be a regular here when it was YUCATÁN TACO STAND - happy to see they’ve kept the vibes. It’s definitely cleaner and that’s a relief. We came here for drinks but want to return to have some of their food items.
The margaritas were good and you can’t ever go wrong with a cold beer.
We visited during the week and it was nice. The patio area still one of my favorites on Magnolia Street.
Definitely recommend 👌

The food was okay. The guacamole had onions in it in which I told them I wanted no onions or pico. It was gross with the onions, probably good without. The shrimp tacos and quesadillas were pretty decent. Margarita was good.

This place was great! The atmosphere was bright and cheerful. The food was terrific. The brisket nachos were tasty. They were a huge pile of chips with the right amount of decadent queso, brisket, sour cream, and guacamole to keep you happy to the last chip. Try the special hot sauce they have at the front drizzled on top. Amazing! I had shredded chicken and shredded brisket tacos. I ate them before I thought about taking a pic. They were that good!
I need to go get more so I can share the goodness.
If you like trying all the new taco joints popping up across the metroplex this has to be on your list.
This place has all the taste without the break the bank prices.
Sandy, the owner was around and came by the table to check on us. She was a lot of fun to talk with.
My buddies had the carnitas torta with fried plantains and the chicken quesadillas. I was envious of the torta.
This place is definitely worth a try. It won’t disappoint.

Food/pricing is very good and they have a lot of options to pick from. The loaded nachos are giant you definitely can share with someone. The cali taco was different, but it tasted really good.
The service was good and the people were very friendly.
WE WILL BE BACK:)

(Side note for restaurant maybe y’all can add a garlic beef or chicken to the menu 👀)

I love this place! I used to think Habaneros in Arlington had the best breakfast tacos but these guys beat it by a mile. The prices are way too cheap for the quality of food and presentation, and they have specialty margs that are great! We usually go to Brewed down the block but this is a fantastic alternative.

When you first arrive at the restaurant, we realize that you order as you come in the front door. The menu is sitting on the top of the wall, so that you can clearly see it and order the food you want and they give you a number and you can go out to sit yourself whatever you want and they will bring the food to you. They have a variety of drinks there and water, and so forth. The staff was fairly friendly. I was hoping for a little bit more friendliness because of the new establishment but that’s OK. I made a comment that I had a lot of memories in this building and the gentleman who looked like he could’ve been a manager, reminded me that this was not the Yucatán stand that this was a new restaurant. I quickly said I was not referring to the restaurant I was referring to the building, so that’s how our experience got started. The chips were over the top amazing, guacamole was OK, the deep fried potatoes were over the top yummy. The Elote was amazing. I think we should give this place a go just because we want to see our local businesses succeed, but I’m hoping they have better luck than the last one that was there for so many years and couldn’t pull it together. Here are some pictures. I hope you enjoy of some of the food that we enjoyed as well. One quick drawback is the amount of homeless people that walk by the patio andjust being able to enjoy your time there with homeless people clearly wanting help.
