Arriero’s Mexican Food — Fort Worth’s Best Kept Secret for Authentic Mexican Cuisine

If you’re tired of Tex-Mex and craving something that tastes genuinely, soul-satisfyingly Mexican, Arriero’s Mexican Food on Benbrook Highway is the Fort Worth hidden gem you need to find. Tucked between tire shops along Benbrook Highway at 4400 Benbrook Blvd., this sunny storefront dining room is a Monterrey-style Mexican restaurant worth driving out of your way for — and plenty of loyal regulars do exactly that. The restaurant is renowned for its commitment to traditional cooking techniques, with homemade corn tortillas, rich hand-crafted salsas, and recipes rooted in the culinary traditions of Monterrey, Mexico. The cozy, family-friendly atmosphere and warmly attentive staff make every visit feel less like dining out and more like being welcomed into someone’s home.

The menu at Arriero’s is a masterclass in authentic Mexican cooking that goes well beyond the standard combo plate. Standout dishes include the Bistec Ranchero — tender strips of beef bathed in a succulent ranchero sauce — as well as tacos al pastor served with house-made flour tortillas, and hearty breakfast burritos and tamales crafted with genuine care. The fan-favorite menudo draws customers from across the metroplex, with regulars making the drive specifically for a bowl, and the pozole, nopal dishes, and fresh-squeezed agua frescas are equally worthy of the trip. Generous portions, reasonable prices, and an unwavering commitment to cleanliness and quality make Arriero’s a local institution that keeps the tables full.

Arriero’s is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Delivery is also available through Uber Eats and Grubhub for those nights when you want a taste of authentic Mexico from the comfort of home. Whether you’re a Fort Worth foodie always hunting for the real deal or a newcomer still discovering the city’s culinary treasures, Arriero’s belongs on your must-visit list. I came in for lunch and I order my food “some Tablitas de puerco" and there was no meat on them I did let the staff know and she was like I'm sorry!! I got chips and salsa which by the way are no free and i saw my waitress picking up the table behind me and i had noticed that the basket was almost full so i told my self I hope I dont get the same chips that were left on the table and sure it enough she refilled the same basket and fave it to me and she did noticed that i saw her so she played it off and for that reason I'm scared of what might I get from previous customers so no i wont go back. Y'all need to be careful people would go to extremes to save a buck or two.

The food is really good at "hole in the wall,' near the traffic circle. Nice neat & clean restaurant! The caldo de rez was fresh & hot, the carne asada gordita was big and filling. Y'all need up try this place!

We frequent this restaurant and love the food, the coffee, the corn tortillas are unique and amazing all by themselves. Staff is always super attentive. I love the chile relleno with beef and the huevos rancheros.

Love this place!! It's smaller inside, serving Mexican food, not texmex.
Sit wherever there's an open table and grab a menu before sitting. They're on the counter by the register.
Recommend the agua Fresca, guava or melon - YUM! They serve menudo on the weekends, that's our go to. We've never walked out hungry. They get busy sometimes so be patient and make eye contact.

Amazing ACTUAL Mexican food. So tired of Tex-Max being called “Mexican” food. The “beef with cactus and cheese” was a so good, if a bit salty. Homemade corn tortillas, fresh salsa, nice staff. If you doubt the authenticity, check that the menu is in Mexican Spanish. Beware, service is “slow” for the American idea of Mexican food.
