Charleston’s Restaurant — Fort Worth’s Beloved Neighborhood American Classic on Hulen Street

For over 20 years, located in the heart of Fort Worth at the corner of Hulen and Bellaire Drive, Charleston’s has been a favorite gathering place for locals — the kind of reliable, genuinely satisfying restaurant that earns a devoted following by simply doing everything well, night after night. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting, with dark woods and gas lighting creating a handsome, casual, and comfortable décor that feels equally suited to a quick weekday lunch, a laid-back date night, or a family dinner before catching a movie at the nearby theater. The huge stone bar is the centerpiece of the restaurant, and it draws a lively crowd thanks to an extensive wine list and a Social Hour that’s become a neighborhood institution. Charleston’s earns an impressive 4.5-star rating from hundreds of Yelp reviewers, a testament to the consistent quality and hospitality that keeps regulars coming back week after week.

The menu features traditional American classics prepared from scratch daily, with a focus on high-quality ingredients at accessible prices. Standouts include the Homemade Meatloaf, Chicken Fried Steak, and baby back ribs — comfort food staples executed with genuine care. Seafood shines with the short smoked salmon with mustard sauce and the Shrimp Cargot appetizer topped with cheese, while the sandwich lineup is one of the strongest in the neighborhood. The Champagne chicken salad is a must-try, the Hawaiian ribeye earns consistent raves, and the glazed carrots have become a beloved side dish. For dessert, Nick’s Bread Pudding doused in Grand Marnier is the kind of dish people plan their meals around. Signature drinks include the Perfect Margarita and Peach Bellini, and the complimentary quesadilla bar during Social Hour is one of the best happy hour deals in all of Fort Worth.

Charleston’s is located at 3020 S. Hulen St. and is open Monday through Wednesday from 11am to 9pm, Thursday through Saturday until 10pm, and Sunday from 11am to 9pm. A dedicated gluten-free menu is available, and the restaurant offers dine-in, takeout, curbside pickup, and delivery through Uber Eats — making it easy to enjoy a great scratch-made meal however the evening calls for it. A children’s menu is available for guests 12 and under, and the restaurant handles large groups with ease. Whether you’re a longtime South Fort Worth local or just discovering this stretch of Hulen Street, Charleston’s is the kind of warm, welcoming spot that quickly becomes a regular stop — find more of Fort Worth’s best neighborhood dining destinations in the full guide to Fort Worth restaurants.

This is an excellent restaurant I discovered on Google Maps. When was viewing the photos of these wonderful dishes, the appearance of the atmosphere and the menu layout, I was beginning to find this familiar... Then I learned that Charleston's was related to Houston's restaurant - my most favorite restaurant! Back in June of 2020 I was saddened to learn the Houston's in North Dallas/Addison permanently closed. Others closed and/or converted to Hillstone (which they're good, but I really don't find it the same).
Coming out here to Charleston's the first time was an excellent experience! The bartender servers were very polite and helpful. I had plates that I never saw on the Houston's menu like the flatbread pizza for an appetizer and the chicken piccata as my main course. Both were great and fulfilling! Next visit I had items that were; like the spinach artichoke dip appetizer and the original chicken tender platter. They were just as wonderful as I remember, except the chips were airy not crunchy. I held on to the remaining artichoke dip for my chicken tenders and they went great together! That's what I loved when dining at Houston's how most dishes can be paired and consolidated perfectly. Everything served at these restaurants is purely fresh, and there's still more to try here at Charleston's. Hope to return soon!

I went with my sisters. It was nice vibe with excellent food. We literally went an hour before closing and was treated well. We was not rushed. Taylor was absolutely excellent. She still let us take our time. She was very friendly. The food was excellent. It was just amazing experience Taylor. Thank you so much for being an amazing server my sisters and I truly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back soon.

A group of us went for Mother's Day. The service was impeccable, as always. The food was amazing! We've been here before, but it has been a while. Will definitely be back. Great experience!

Charleston's had a warm, welcoming atmosphere and excellent service. The catfish platter was awesome—fresh and hot—though it could’ve used a touch more seasoning. The coleslaw was tasty, especially with a dash of black pepper. The real standout was the croissant basket—light, buttery, and absolutely superb. It was a great dining experience overall.

Love how everyone works together. This makes eating out a great experience! Our server Taylor was fabulous. She brought us drinks before they were empty and this has been lacking in so many restaurants. Thank you, we enjoyed everything!♡

My boyfriend and I dined here last night for the very first time, Tony was our server. He was very polite and attentive, thank you Tony for your great hospitality and taking the time to guide us through the menus! With his help we ordered the croissant basket & spinach artichoke dip as starters, and for dinner the chicken fried chicken & parmesan crusted chicken. They were all very delicious, I thoroughly enjoyed the spinach dip as I never find restaurants that use actual fresh/flash frozen spinach, it’s always the canned variety and lacks flavor. It was nice and creamy, served with salsa and sour cream. For my palate I would advise not to add any sour cream to the dip since the original recipe is already perfect, we basically licked the bowl clean lol. The chicken fried chicken was super flavorful and I could taste each spice and seasoning used in the flour/batter, the gravy was subtle but a nice touch and smoothly creamy. I’m not a fan of cooked carrots so I substituted for steamed & buttered broccoli, I also opted for the up-charge to make the mashed potatoes loaded with cheese, bacon, and chives. Both sides were quite yummy :) My boyfriend really enjoyed his plate, and it comes with this small portion of fresh mozzarella salad - it includes spring greens and a vinaigrette that is extra tangy, a nice palate cleanser to his pasta dish. I also ordered the non-alcoholic vanilla blackberry punch but it just wasn’t doing it for me, I guess I’m not a huge fan of ginger beer lol. Overall a very pleasant date night, will come here again when we have the chance :)

For transparency, our total after tax for everything we ordered was $76 before tipping. Hope whoever’s reading this has a good experience dining here! Another side note, due to the volume of how many people come to dine the walk-ways may be blocked off unintentionally.
What can I say... Charlestons in FT Worth is Fantastic!!! I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken Steak with mashed potatoes and carrots. I give it a 9/10 rating. The only bad thing I can say is that I wish the bread was crispier. But besides that, the service was very good. They also have a kid friendly menu and the foos and prices are worth the drive.
