Trailboss Burgers — The Fort Worth Stockyards’ Home of the Buffalo Burger, Where Riscky’s Century-Old Legacy Meets Cattle Drive Views, Half-Pound Angus Beef, and All-You-Can-Eat Fried Catfish on East Exchange Avenue

Right in the beating heart of the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards, steps from the Long Horn Trail where the twice-daily cattle drive rolls past, Trailboss Burgers at 140 E. Exchange Ave. brings the full flavor of Cowtown to the table in one of the most atmospheric dining settings in the city. Part of the legendary Riscky’s family of restaurants — a Fort Worth institution whose roots stretch back to 1927 when Polish immigrant Joe Riscky opened his first grocery and market near the Stockyards — Trailboss is where that century-old heritage meets the great American burger in a room that radiates western character at every turn: saddle bar stools, red and white checkered tablecloths, cowboys on staff, and a festive patio that delivers the best street-level view of the cattle drive anywhere on Exchange Avenue. Prices stay surprisingly reasonable for such a prime Stockyards location, and the staff’s genuine hospitality has earned rave reviews from visitors and locals alike.

The menu is anchored by the signature Buffalo Bill burger — 100% pure buffalo meat, 96% lean, with 30% higher protein, fewer calories, 50% less cholesterol, and an exceptional omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, served with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and pickle on a toasted bun — making Trailboss the only spot in Fort Worth where a bison burger this well-executed is the headliner. For those who prefer traditional beef, the half-pound Certified Angus Beef burgers are equally compelling: the Legend Burger stacked with homemade onion strings and house Ranch’n sauce, the Smokehouse layered with bacon, cheddar, and two over-easy eggs, and the Spicy Steer topped with pepper jack and fried jalapeños. Beyond burgers, Trailboss is the only Riscky’s location serving the famous Riscky’s Beef Brisket Stew — big chunks of smoked brisket in a rich, savory broth — and the all-you-can-eat fried catfish with unlimited refills on catfish, fries, and hush puppies is an institution unto itself. Smoked turkey legs, sandwiches, salads, hot dogs, sweet potato fries, crispy tater tots, and a full kids’ menu round out a surprisingly comprehensive spread.

Trailboss Burgers is located at 140 E. Exchange Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76164, and is open Sunday from 8am to 9pm, Monday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm, Friday from 10:30am to 10pm, and Saturday from 8am to 10pm, with weekend breakfast served Saturday and Sunday mornings. Dine-in, takeout, and online ordering are all available. Whether you’re fueling up before the cattle drive, cooling down after a morning in the Stockyards, or simply chasing one of the most uniquely Fort Worth dining experiences available anywhere in the city, Trailboss delivers on every count. We were looking for a place to eat while visiting the Stockyards and decided to stop here since it’s right in the middle of all the action.

We all ordered burgers and agreed they were excellent! We also tried a side of wings, (we always have to try wings if they are on the menu) definitely worth adding on.

The outdoor seating off Exchange Ave. was a great bonus it offered a perfect view of everything happening around us. Overall, a great spot to grab a bite when visiting Fort Worth!

We came here for appetizers and to enjoy the outside patio since it wasn’t too hot outside - we loved the outdoor fans that gave a light breeze. We got the cheese sticks and fried mushrooms. I liked the fried mushrooms the best. Service was quick and great.
Service was fast, the burgers were delicious, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable for The Stockyards. I'd certainly recommend stopping here if you're watching the trail ride.

The food was good. Burger was thick & juicy. My grandma enjoyed her Vegi Burger. Beans were very watery, tho.

Suspiciously, they tried to sit my mother and grandma at the back of the crowded restaurant 🤨 When there was a perfect open table at the front with a nice view of outside. They insisted on sitting at the front, and the host obliged. But it's set an uneasy vibe when I arrived later, so minus -⭐️

We recently visited Risky TrailBoss Burger’s and were blown away! We both had the buffalo burger—mine with added bacon—and they were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and a great size! We also enjoyed some crispy tater tots and I had the sweet potato fries, which paired perfectly with sweet tea. 🍔🍟

What really made the experience top-notch was the incredibly friendly staff. From the host to the bar guy to our waitress—everyone was amazing and had such great attitudes. Even the folks dining there seemed to be in great spirits. You might have to wait a little bit for your food, but trust me, it’s worth every second!

My personal burger rating: 8.2
My wife’s burger rating: 10
Overall restaurant rating: 9.6 🎉

We love trying new places and featuring them on our YouTube channel, “It’s All About Food & Places,” and Risky TrailBoss Burger’s is definitely making it into our lineup! 🤠😁

Highly recommended if you’re in the mood for a great burger and even better vibes!

Fun decor, perfect stop next to the Long Horn trail and Fort Worth Stockyards. Satisfied our hunger with burgers thought beans could’ve been seasoned more and onions were way too salty tho. Wish I had tried those fried pickles!

Great spot! The service was friendly and fast. We sat in the patio which was perfect and fun to watch the activity on the street. The food was delicious… got burgers of course (one with egg and one with BBQ) … the fries honestly could have been hotter (they were barley warm - but everything else was so good and they still tasted good - just would be good to serve while hotter). Would love to come back. So glad we stopped here! ❤️💥☀️

Found it to be a decent spot, especially if you’re looking to soak in a bit of that classic Stockyards vibe. The ambience definitely stands out—it captures the rustic, Western charm of the area and creates a casual, laid-back setting that’s great for a relaxed meal.

The food itself was good, though not particularly memorable. The burgers were well-cooked with a decent balance of flavors, and the portions were satisfying. While nothing on the menu truly wowed me, it’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a solid, no-frills meal.

Service was prompt and friendly, which added to the overall experience. It’s a good choice if you’re in the area and want to grab a bite while exploring the Stockyards, but perhaps not a destination spot on its own.

Overall, Tailboss Burgers is an okay place with a pleasant atmosphere and decent food—worth visiting if you’re nearby and in the mood for a casual burger in a Western-themed setting.

Krystal is an awesome server. We really enjoyed the food and listen we paid less than $20 for 18 great tasting wings. Try this place out next time you’re at the Stockyards of Fort Worth, Texas.

Fast service and convenient location. We stopped in for a snack — some apps. The Texas Twists were delicious. The cheese sticks were pretty rough - hard and not cooked through.
