Vibe Taco — Fort Worth’s Laid-Back TCU-Area Taco Hangout Where Craft Tacos, Hurricane Fries, Loaded Nachos, and a Party-Ready Bar Scene Make South University Drive the Place to Be Thursday Through Saturday
Started as a beloved food truck in Alvarado before earning a loyal following that demanded a permanent home, Vibe Taco at 3201 S. University Dr. has settled comfortably into its role as one of the TCU neighborhood’s most fun and flavorful destinations since opening its Fort Worth brick-and-mortar location. Fort Worth Weekly visited and came away raving about the Saw’d Off Taco — two breaded and fried chicken tenders blanketed in thick queso and fresh pico de gallo, a trifecta of juicy poultry, creamy cheese, and spicy freshness — and the Hurricane Fries, a towering mound of seasoned tots smothered in melted cheddar, tender smoked brisket chunks, and freshly diced cilantro, onions, and tomatoes that could easily feed two. The single large room with a full bar at the back, long rows of tall tables, arcade games in the corner, and free parking in the adjacent garage creates an easy-going atmosphere that transforms into a full-on party scene Thursday through Saturday evenings when the TCU crowd descends in force.
The menu at Vibe Taco earns its “craft” label with creative combinations that go well beyond typical Tex-Mex. Standout craft tacos include the Kook — signature chicken fajita, pineapple pico, queso fresco, cilantro, and chipotle crema — the Smoked Out Brisket available on flour or corn tortilla, the Buffalo Chicken Taco, and the Holy Trinity deal letting guests choose any three tacos at a value price. Appetizers shine with hand-battered fried pickle bites with ranch, mac and cheese bites with crispy golden exteriors and gooey American cheese interiors, and queso blanco with house-made tortilla chips. The B.Y.O.B. — build your own bowl — gives the grain bowl crowd a customizable option loaded with fresh ingredients. The bar program is a genuine draw: craft cocktails, bottled and draft beers, pitchers and towers of margaritas, seltzers, and house margaritas made with El Jimador Tequila that regulars describe as the perfect tart-sweet balance. Taco Tuesday brings three tacos for $12, making it one of the best weekly deals in the TCU corridor.
