Walloon’s Restaurant — Chef Marcus Paslay’s Seafood-Forward Fine Dining Gem Inside Fort Worth’s Historic LaCava Building, Where a Raw Bar, Gulf Coast Classics, and the Coldest Martini on Magnolia Avenue Make Every Visit an Occasion

When Chef Marcus Paslay — the CIA-trained culinary force behind Clay Pigeon and Piattello Italian Kitchen — opened his fourth From Scratch Hospitality concept on the Near Southside, he chose one of the most historically significant addresses on all of Magnolia Avenue: the LaCava Building at Walloon’s Restaurant, 701 W. Magnolia Ave. Built in the early 1920s by W.B. LaCava and expanded in 1927 with the Modern Drug building that anchored the corner for seven decades, the space carries a century of Fort Worth history in its bones — exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and the elegant bones of a building that has witnessed the neighborhood’s fall and remarkable renaissance. Texas Monthly listed Walloon’s as a Fort Worth restaurant worth knowing, and early TripAdvisor visitors described it as a place that may have knocked it out of the park — praising the thoughtfully designed interior, the exceptional service, and a seafood program with genuine southern coastal ambition. With a 4.7-star average across dozens of reviews and a seafood menu that evokes classic New Orleans destinations, Walloon’s has quickly established itself as one of the most sophisticated dining destinations on the Near Southside.

The menu is a beautifully considered tour through Gulf Coast and coastal American seafood tradition, elevated by Paslay’s from-scratch philosophy and an unmistakable wanderlust in the flavor combinations. The raw bar anchors the experience — daily-selection cold water oysters by the half dozen or dozen, spicy tuna crudo with calabrian chili oil and horseradish, shrimp cocktail with avocado and pico de gallo, and a $95 seafood tower with a dozen oysters, poached shrimp, tuna crudo, and chef’s raw bar selection. Starters span fried oysters Rockefeller, a $25 crab cake, beer-battered redfish beignets, Louisiana BBQ shrimp, and the Church Lady deviled eggs that regulars reorder at every visit. Entrees include the seared redfish over Gulf shrimp, mussels, and bouillabaisse with sourdough, trout almondine with brown butter and green beans, pan-roasted salmon over creamed leeks, moules marinière, seafood mac and cheese with lobster and three cheeses, and the dinner-only braised short rib with potato purée and jus for the beef loyalists. The Walloon’s Freezer Martini — served in a frozen glass, available in vodka or gin — is one of the most talked-about cocktails on Magnolia and worth ordering on principle.

Walloon’s is located at 701 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76104, and is open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 10pm, and Sunday from 11am to 9pm. Weekend brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Happy hour is available Monday through Friday from 3 to 6pm. Free validated parking is available in the garage — enter off Travis Ave. Reservations are available via Resy and are strongly recommended for dinner and weekends, though bar and raw bar seating is first come, first served. We've lived in FtW for years and not visited Walloon's until this very (Saturday) evening. We absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. The drinks. The service. The atmosphere. And of course the food! It's a perfect spot, too, for a date with your partner.

There was a buzz tonight. Many peeps attending the FtW Stock Show & Rodeo were having dinner. Our server was also attentive, kind, and boxed up the leftovers. We forgot her name, but she was skinny, a little short, and had black hair.

We started with two cocktails from the Limited Time Only menu: the spicy marg and the TX Whiskey drink. I enjoyed the Beer-Battered Redfish Beignets and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich w/ Pommes Frites. Everything was hot, crispy, seasoned well, and cooked to perfection.

I'll be back for the Italian Beef and Trout Almondine.

Had dinner on New Year’s Day.
Service was excellent.
Enjoyed a delicious Manhattan cocktail with my meal.
And their Bread Pudding dessert was certainly the best Bread Pudding I’ve had!

Walloon’s is an absolute gem in Fort Worth. From start to finish, our dinner was nothing short of exceptional. We started with a dozen oysters, perfectly fresh and briny, setting the tone for the night. The corn bisque soup followed, rich and velvety with just the right touch of sweetness—comfort in a bowl.

The steak frites stole the show: beautifully cooked, tender, and full of flavor, paired with perfectly crisp fries. For dessert, the bread pudding was a masterpiece—warm, indulgent, and elevated even further by a glass of 20-year port.

The drinks were equally impressive. My Hemingway daiquiri was balanced and refreshing, the perfect pairing with the oysters and steak. Every detail of the evening, from the atmosphere to the attentive service, felt thoughtful and polished.

Walloon’s is the kind of place that makes you want to linger, savor, and come back again. Easily one of the best dining experiences in Fort Worth.

Upscale restaurant in an old bank building south of downtown Fort Worth. Service was impeccable. We had fish dip appetizer, mussels, lobster mac and cheese, red fish, and salmon. The leek sauce with the salmon was the OMG of the meal. Lobster mac and cheese was the biggest let down. Everything else was top tier. Highly recommend.

What a great experience. Food was amazing, service was great. They told us it was an hour wait, but then worked us right in. Great choices and we were super happy with our meal. Great selection of dishes and appetizers, fresh ingredients, and vegetarian and gluten free options. This place is "fine dining" with a more casual flair, really really liked it 10/10

This restaurant was a very short 10 minute drive from downtown - went for brunch on a lazy Sunday. Parking was very convenient with street parking as well as validated garage parking nearby. Restaurant decor was bright and spacious with Southern comfortable classiness. Service was excellent and the food was fantastic. The seafood tower was especially good. Gumbo was also very enjoyable. Lobster roll was tasty but as a regular visitor of Boston I still prefer the lobster rolls up there mainly for the enormous quantities of lobster meat. Anyway, overall this was a highly recommended restaurant and one I would visit again next time I come to Fort Worth. Highly recommend.

Fabulous lunch with Mom here for her birthday. I am glad I listened to our server and ordered the redfish beignets, they are awesome! The trout almondine was like a work of art complete with a grilled lemon. The blackened shrimp caesar was a nice sized salad. Will definitely return here for dinner one evening.
